CES is always interesting in the world of automotive. Auto giants like Ford, Mercedes Benz, Toyota, Nissan and more take to the showroom floor to debut their latest and greatest as a precursor to the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). With intelligent transportation always making headlines, the focus this year was on what’s inside and around the vehicles.
From sensor technology to full-on autonomy, there was no shortage of innovation for show-goers to experience. Ford in particular had an exciting, albeit modest, display of its latest partnerships with companies like Postmates and Michigan-based Domino’s. Much like the discussion of shared mobility in a word of on-demand services like Via and Uber, Ford’s partnership with Postmates is proof of the natural relationship between on-demand expectations and intelligent transportation. This move is one that has big economic implications, particularly for small businesses who have already benefited from Postmates and its ability to amplify visibility beyond a normal delivery zone or storefront.
Testing its autonomous fleet with established partners offers Ford the opportunity to measure more than just the effectiveness of its tech, but the overall improved experience.
