The medical applications and healthcare benefits of virtual reality (VR) have long been the subject of research studies, and now The Wayback project is using it to help patients suffering from Alzheimer’s.
The project, whose roots are traceable to a now-closed Kickstarter campaign, is being piloted in the UK. The first film in what is intended to be a series is the coronation of Queen Elizabeth I of England. The goal won’t just trigger a memory for the viewer; instead, The Wayback project hopes that by immersing the viewer in the experience with VR, they’ll be able to feel as though they are reliving the moment, strengthening their connection to the memory.
