The Emmy Awards recognize excellence in television, an industry that has changed alongside the evolution of cord-cutting with services like Amazon Prime Video, Netflix and Hulu. The 2016 Emmy Awards were hosted on Sunday September 18, and marked yet another major change in Hollywood — immersive entertainment thanks to advancements in virtual reality.
Oculus took home an Emmy win for its short film Henry, about a charming little hedgehog. Mark Zuckerberg, owner of Oculus, as well as co-founder and CEO of Facebook, took to his Facebook timeline to offer a deeper look into what the film’s win means for the future of entertainment.
According to Zuckerberg, “When you watch Henry in virtual reality, you feel like you’re actually in his world, looking around and interacting with him. Henry is a great example of how VR is going to change storytelling.”
Other films in the Oculus queue include Dear Angelica, which the company previewed at Sundance earlier this year. More announcements are expected before the end of the year, with an Oculus developers conference scheduled for October 2016.
