Design a Crumhorn

MAKERS: Charles Jackson

My DIY project was to design a Crumhorn. THis instrument is said to have been the favorite of King Henry the 8th. In order to design a crumhorn, I needed to write a program in OCTAVE to calculate the hole positions and sizes using transmission line theory. Rather than building a crumhorn and drilling holes until I got an instrument that is in tune, I simulate the results and eventually get a design that I want to make using a 3D printer. I then use OPENSCAD to create a 3D printing file and send it to a commercial printer. My goal was to develop a program so that woodwind instruments can be designed, and fabricated. Open source software was used, and no company facilities were used.
