What advice would you give to young technologists on how to get the most out of the IEEE membership experience?
Join an IEEE student chapter at your school or in your city. This will offer numerous opportunities to connect with peers, grow professionally and participate in ongoing activities. Students should take advantage of the complimentary subscriptions to IEEE journals and magazines provided by the institutions. On top of this, attending IEEE hosted conferences would be the ideal place to experience and participate in research first-hand.
What’s the hottest technology in the next 10 years?
We have observed automated industrial robots for several decades. However, we now need autonomous, intelligent, adaptive and personalized robots capable of handling various tasks we want to accomplish. This is where I believe home robotics will witness a quantum leap both in terms of research and product development. End users will have access to a wide range of open-source or commercial products such as vacuum cleaners, education robots and humanoids. These robots are and would be ideal for mundane tasks that we do not prefer spending our precious time on.
