How do smart streetlights work to reduce lighting pollution?

The use of sensing to dynamically change the amount of illumination or area of illumination based on real-time conditions, such as a mobile object, sound or pre-planned event, weather, time (specific hour, day of the week) is one application. In some places, it may be preferable to have long wavelength light to reduce light pollution, and sensors may assist here as well.
