Mini Device to reduce fuel emissions and energy crisis.

MAKERS: Vishal COUNTRY: India

The device (40*40 mm) recovers waste heat from exhaust gases of automobile's and generate electricity. Thus, reducing load on alternator which is a fuel consuming device coupled to an engine.

The Purpose

As the energy crisis are arising, there is a need of a technology which would give maximum output at minimun input. Efficiency of I.C Engine can't be increased, and also alternator (used to meet electrical requirements of vechile) is a mechanical device having various electrical and mechanical losses. Hence, extra fuel is to be burnt to meet the electrical requirement and overcome the losses. So, the only scope available for improving efficiency of system is waste heat recovery through hot exhaust gases reducing load on alternator. The other constraint is space availability and weight of device.

The Technology

Depending upon space constraint a device was designed 40*40mm which works on the concept of SEEBECK effect. 4 thermoelectric generators (air cooling used, no need of water heat exchanger) were used to generat power and run the accessories which inturn reduces load on alternator. Hence, less fuel is required to be burnt now reducing the fuel intake by engine which will help us in coping up for energy crisis. As less fuel is burnt, thus less emissions occurs resulting in reduced dumping of harmful gases in atmosphere.

Additional Details

-Reduced fuel intake. Even if minimum of 1 litre of fuel is saved form each vechile yearly, we can multiply the fuel saving by uncountable vechiles existing on earth. -Reduced fuel intake leads to reduced harmful gases emissions to the environment. - It could be a step forward to achieve the goal set for year 2020 signed worldwide of reduced use of non renewable energy and reducing emissions.
