Solar Powered Kitchen: A Saviour in Absence of Natural Gas

MAKERS: Naveed , Zakir , Haris , Shoban , Salman COUNTRY: Pakistan

While the cost of fossil fuel keeps growing, shortage of gas leads us to switch gears to sustainable energy technologies. Solar Powered Kitchen is the way forward to smart cooking.

The Purpose

While the cost of fossil fuel keeps growing, the shortage of gas in the country leads us to switch gears to sustainable and renewable energy technologies that are: solar power, wind power, hydel power, geothermal force, tidal energy, biogas and biomass. Solar driven Kitchens across the globe run entirely on solar energy. One of the major examples of existing solar power system is found in neighboring country India which may generate approximately 39,000 meals a day by utilizing solar radiation only. The price of solar plates is decreasing with time, resulting into possible financing for future food factories and emporiums.

The Technology

Concentrated solar arrays are likely to play a significant role in implementing solar powered kitchens. It is appropriate to exploit solar radiation to produce steam corresponding to natural gas to make food. Thus natural gas consumption could be reduced in residential buildings by using solar energy to prepare food, this reduction may be applied to other applications i.e. power stations, petro-chemical industries, energy firms, water desalination, biomass and bio-fuel. By elementary science, using magnifying glasses curved lens to focus the sun?s energy to heat the water in to steam which can be used for cooking which is our main goal.

Additional Details

Why Solar Cooking? 1. The energy from sunlight is free 2. Its pollution content is negligible and is inexhaustible 3. It does not include natural resources such as hydrocarbon energy, natural gas and petroleum that have greater applications in other fields of engineering and technology for power generation, industry and process engineering 4. It proves environment friendly i.e. no greenhouse effect leading to global warming and acid rains 5. It proves to salubrious way of cooking food on the contrary to smoke and fire 6. Solar cooking is cost effective especially in areas where there is no availability of natural gas
