This is a single innovative circuit breaker which would protect users of electricity from various electrical faults like:Voltage fluctuation,Short circuit/overload,Frequency fluctuation,Residual leakage current.

The Purpose

The purpose for building this project is to build a single circuit breaker which can protect from multiple electrical faults as discussed above.Due to lack of knowledge in circuit breakers and cost not everyone can avail all types of circuit breakers for protection. And moreover the circuit breakers used don't got any way to understand whether its operational or faulty(except RCD/RCCB), Smart Circuit Breaker got this reporting functionality which will alert user before any electrical accident for any faults within Smart circuit breaker itself. So its called 'Smart'!

The Technology

Whole project is based on PIC MCU,which is low cost yet high performance MCU. I am also using voltage transformer for voltage sensing, current transformer for load measurement,Zero current transformers for residual leakage current measurement(for Electrocution detection). All above transformers are interfaced with PIC using precision rectifiers and amplifiers by utilizing low noise OPAMPs.Frequency is measured by counting pulses of mains sine wave. And 2x16 LCD is also employed to show different AC parameters and various statuses. And lastly a DPDT Relay is used to to make/break the circuit.

Additional Details

Key features are: ->A single circuit breaker useful for protecting from different electrical faults like Voltage fluctuation,Short circuit/Overload,Frequency fluctuation,Residual leakage current(electrocution/electric shock). ->With display of different AC parameter like live Voltage,Load,Frequency. ->With all status reporting of whatever Electrical faults or faults within the Smart Circuit Breaker itself. This is useful as in case of conventional circuit breaker,user is unknown of whether its in working condition or not, and if not then he will get it only during electrical fault! which may cause losses as that circuit breaker will fail ->Very high speed action of circuit breaking for any electrical fault.
