The Purpose

This project, an academic nature, enters the range of mobile robots with search and rescue functions. there are already many solutions developed, but here is what sets us apart is the use of hardware resources at a lower cost and based on open source solutions. The development of the project allowed to build robotic tools that can assist rescue teams in search and rescue operations by land, resource with great potential disaster. Although a prototype robot of this innovation is the possibility of using up three different modes, and in its open source technology.

The Technology

The robot is equipped with sensors for various detections (including human beings) and endowed with the ability to communicate with the external Wi-Fi network. Thus, the project is a mobile robot, which aims, work in three different modes: autonomous driving by camera, was autonomous driving by sensors and manual driving by command, for this we use the Raspberry Pi 2 and the Arduino Uno R3 together with a series connection that allows interaction between the two devices.

Additional Details

Its automated processes are aided by the presence of infrared sensors to detect gaps that exist at ground level, ultrasonic sensors detect an object or so that it opposes the locomotion robot making this change of direction, which is the driving mode was autonomous with sensors. The robot has a video camera that allows the interpretation and visualization environment in which it is involved. For this it is necessary to implement algorithms for digital image processing in microprocessor Raspberry Pi 2.
