Wireless power transfer is the transfer of electric energy from a power source to an electric load without a direct physical connection between them, usually via an electromagnetic field(Electromagnetic Induction) Residual magnetism.


The Purpose

Wireless power transmission is the transmission of electrical energy from a power source to an electrical load without man-made conductors. Wireless transmission is used to power electrical devices in cases where interconnecting wires are inconvenient or hazardous. This can replace frequent plugging in of the devices to Electrical sockets and also provide an efficient way to transmit the power to the moving parts. Wireless Electricity finds its application where all we use electrical loads like mobile phones, laptops, electric vehicles and all other domestic electrical utilities. It can also bring electrical Vehicles to road more by putting them under this.

The Technology

Inductive Coupling consists of two coils one is source coil and the other one is receiving coil. An alternating current in the transmitter coil generates a magnetic field which induces a voltage in the receiver coil. It is the simplest method of wireless power transfer the power can be transmitted. The efficiency of the power transfer depends on the coupling between the inductors and their quality. The example of inductive coupling is the transformer. In transformers, there is a core which guides and acts as a path for the flux from primary to secondary. Wireless electricity acts as Coreless transformer(Air-cored)

Additional Details

We already use the WPT in our daily life applications chargers, RFID tags, smartcards, and chargers for implantable medical devices like artificial cardiac pacemakers. A current focus is to develop wireless systems to charge mobile and handheld computing devices such as cell phones, digital music players, and portable computers without being tethered to a wall plug. The main advantage is it reduces the total cost as compared to our existing network also it need less maintenance. There is no possibility for any interference and disturbances due to this wireless transfer It doesn?t cause anything on living things.
