Q: What inspires you today?
A: Historically speaking, cybersecurity has been largely a “cat-and-mouse” game where attacks get better, defenders respond and then the attacks improve again. Cryptography offers a paradigm for how we can hope to move beyond this, and develop systems that can be rigorously proven secure (at least against certain types of attacks). I am fascinated by the possibility of replicating those ideas in other aspects of cybersecurity.
