Radio Frequency Based Card Verification

MAKERS: GUDELA , PATNAYAKUNI COUNTRY: India

This project is based on Radio Frequency Identification process which provides better security than the Bar coded ones and enhance the security and can store large amount of information .

The Purpose

This project describes about the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) in multiple card reading systems for the purpose of security. The system is based on micro controller 8086 and comprises an RFID module, an LCD module for displaying the status. Basically, an RFID system consists of three components: an antenna or coil, a transceiver (with decoder) and a transponder (RF tag) electronically programmed with unique information. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is one member in the family of Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) technologies and is a fast and reliable means of identifying any material object. The significant advantage

The Technology

I. The project uses a RFID reader that sends a 125 KHz signals while a RFID card is swiped over the same. II. The card used gets powered by inductive means with the coil inside the same duely rectified and filtered for a DC voltage to drive the inbuilt chip in the card. III. Thus while the card is swiped over a message is displayed on LCD to press the status button interfaced to microcontroller. IV. When the button is pressed RFID sends a valid data to the micro controller, which while executed by the program compares with the available data.

Additional Details

Though the RFID cannot completely replace the barcode technology due to higher cost accuracy, speed and the return on investment is high in RFID system. The retailers, manufacturers and consumer goods companies like CVS, Tesco, Prada, Benetton, Wal-Mart and Procter & Gamble are now implementing the technology and exploring the impact of the technology on their business. Others can also take advantage of RFID. The basis of success lies in understanding the technology and other features to minimise the potential problems. It is high time that Indian apparel industry should start utilising the new technology like RFID verification etc.
