What’s keeping you busy these days?

I’m currently deeply engaged in exploring the intersection of generative AI and cybersecurity, which I find super interesting. I’m writing a book with my research partner that examines this relationship from unconventional perspectives, looking beyond traditional threat models to understand how these technologies might co-evolve. The rapid development of new tools and approaches in both the generative AI and cybersecurity spaces continues to amaze and excite me! I’m really interested in how agentic AI systems could transform security paradigms, both creating new vulnerabilities, offering novel defensive capabilities and being a target. It’s an incredibly dynamic area where technical innovation and human values must progress together.

What advice would you give to young technologists on how to get the most of the IEEE membership experience?

I would encourage young technologists to embrace IEEE’s core mission of advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. The most rewarding membership experience comes from aligning your technical interests with how they can create positive impact. Take advantage of the vast knowledge resources, but more importantly, engage with the community by attending conferences (whether it be in-person or virtual), joining technical societies relevant to your interests and participating in local chapter events when possible! These connections will not only enhance your technical knowledge but also provide mentorship opportunities and potential collaborations. Remember that the greatest value comes from both what you gain and what you contribute —volunteering for IEEE initiatives can be incredibly fulfilling and career-enhancing. The relationships you build and the perspectives you gain from IEEE’s global community will serve you throughout your career journey. It has for me!
