What advice would you give to young technologists on how to get the most of the IEEE membership experience?
Being an attendee at local events is a good first step. Look around and see what IEEE has to offer, such as technical societies, affinity groups, standards and initiatives. Put yourself out there and build relationships with volunteers when you go to these events. Once you find an interest, lean into volunteering. That’s where I’ve found the most value in my IEEE membership. Overthinking is one of my weaknesses, and I’ve learned that many times taking a leap into being involved has given me opportunities I never expected.
What’s the hottest technology in the next 10 years?
I want to believe that AI will continue to dominate the tech industry, enabling humans to create and build systems that scale and sustain. The hottest technology will be more integration of AI and IoT, giving people more data to be creative and innovative in making the world a better place. For example, AI combined with real-time sensors could improve the accuracy of forecasting electrical loads on the grid as we move toward a more sustainable future. At the pace technology is moving, ten years feels much closer now than it used to. What once felt like thirty years away now feels like just ten.
