There have been cases where AI trained on mostly male resumes determined that women were not optimal candidates. This meant that the algorithms were looking for any keywords that indicated the candidate was either a woman or even mentioned the word woman.
By removing these kinds of information and just assessing skills of a candidate, it is believed there will be a fairer process to hire the most qualified individuals whether it’s a human or algorithm reviewing the resume. Auditions for musicians have used this so the judges never see the candidate and judge solely on their musical performance. It has been shown that blind auditions and tests remove many implicit biases.
