Automatic Railway Gate Based On Piezoelectric Sensor

MAKERS: Saptian Alfudi Rahman

From 2009 to 2001, the causes of railway accidents that occur are dominated by human error or human negligence by 24% followed by other causes such as factor means 21% and 10% infrastructure . To reduce the human error factor, in this article presented a innovation of automatic railway gate by utilizing vibration on the rails. Vibration is the first information that appears when the train will pass so it can use to detect when the train will pass. Prototype which is designed in the form of integration of components on the rail vibration detector using piezoelectric and electronic circuits to process and execute the command to open or close. The proposed prototype has a specification of the railway gate with 0.2 m of height, 1 m of length and a 5 kg of weight with a servo actuator. Sensitivity test of the sensor is done by giving vibration without passing trains and the passing trains. The results obtained are the readings of each piezoelectric sensor 1 (start) and sensor 2(end) for 5 mV by 4 mV, the threshold voltage of closing and opening. The thresholds have been so still enough time to close the door at any speed railway crossings.
