Q: What inspired you to become an engineer? Were you always interested in technology? If so, why? If not, when did you become interested and why?
A: As a child, I guess my interest in how things worked led everyone to tell me that I should become an engineer. I then applied my interest in physics to a Ph.D. in physical oceanography. As for going into remote sensing, that came much later when I was already doing science but found the use of satellite data to be fascinating and decided to devote the rest of my career to remote sensing. That is why I am a very active member of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society.
